“A farm includes the passion of the farmer’s heart, the interest of the farm’s customers, the biological activity in the soil, the pleasantness of the air about the farm — it’s everything touching, emanating from, and supplying that piece of landscape. A farm is virtually a living organism.” – Joel Salatin
Family Gathering Farms and Forests is a small family owned and operated farm nestled in Copper Hill, Virginia. Our farm is a vibrant ecosystem where we cultivate a variety of crops and raise small animals, prioritizing sustainable practices and educational resources for the community. With a focus on fresh, seasonal produce like heirloom tomatoes, leafy greens, and local honey, the farm actively engages with the local community through our roadside stand and educational offerings. We provide a direct connection between the land and the dinner table. We also contribute to environmental stewardship through practices like composting and rotational grazing.
Dream it.
It all begins with an idea. A pond that croaks in symphony with the scent of wildflowers in the breeze. Sunsets that linger above the shimmering fields below. The long dirt road that winds along the babbling Creekside to the chicken coop. A place for family to come together and grow on a beautiful and sustainable slice of heaven.
Build it.
Starting from the ground up our farm was built and grown with heart. Early hours and late nights working the land so that it can be ready to give back to our family and local community. As the farm took shape so did our goal for sustainability and resourcefulness.
Grow it.
Empty fields now replaced with wildflowers, Christmas trees, and crops, give a sense of validity to our dreams. We watch just as eagerly today as we did in the beginning to see the fruits of our labors and the impact we are able to provide the community around us.
